Who Owns Chancay Port? Ownership Structure Explained

Ownership of the Chancay Megaport is split between a Chinese state-backed operator and a Peruvian publicly-traded company, not a single owner.

The two owners

  • COSCO Shipping Ports Ltd. holds 60% of the port project and operates it as the majority partner.
  • Inversiones Portuarias Chancay S.A.A., a company spun off from Volcan Compañía Minera in 2024, holds the remaining 40%. Its Class A and Class B shares have traded on the Lima Stock Exchange (BVL) since May 23, 2024, when Volcan shareholders received them and could start selling to third parties.

A change on the Peruvian side

In May 2024, Glencore completed the sale of its majority stake in Volcan Compañía Minera (55.028% of shares) to Integra Capital, which became Volcan's new controlling shareholder. Integra Capital has also been evaluating the sale of other related assets, including land near the port.

Can COSCO sell its stake?

There is no public information about an ongoing sale of COSCO's 60% share. It remains the port's main operator.
